PENAMPANG: Donggongon district would see a revival of a much-revamped night market with the launch of the Donggongon Nite Market on 26 April 2025.
The Donggongon Nite Market would be located on the street road in front of the Tamu Sangadau site between Petronas Petrol Station and the roundabout.
Speaking after chairing the penultimate meeting of the organizing committee, Datuk Stephen Sampil, the Organizing Chairman of this Donggongon Nite Market event said that among the night market objectives were to provide opportunities for micro and small traders and entrepreneurs to promote and market their produce and products in this exciting market platform so that they can have the opportunity of generating a sustainable income and have a brighter future.
“This is also in line with the Madani government objective of raising the rakyat’s standard of life and raise their economic status,” he said.
The organizing of the night market also aims to promote Donggongon and Penampang Municipality as an attractive place to visit and transform Donggongon district as a must-visit venue particularly after its elevation as a municipality.
Stephen further added: “Donggongon is a socio-economic and commercial hub of Penampang and putting in place a bustling night market is timely and appropriate particularly when it is convenient for the majority of the residents to visit the night market due to the high ownership of vehicles among the population.”
He said, the night market would also provide additional attractions to the residents in the Penampang and surrounding areas to spend their evening time and enjoy what Donggongon can offer especially during night time.
He also commended the President of the Penampang Municipal Council for his contribution towards this event.
“We would like to thank Francis Chong for his initiative and support to the organizing committee to make this event a reality.
“Not least is the support and assistance by the ever helpful and hardworking Penampang Member of Parliament and Minister of Entrepreneurial and Co-operative Development Datuk Ewon Benedick for assisting to make this event possible,” he said.
The organization of this Donggongon Nite Market is spearheaded by Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in co-operation with Penampang Municipal Council with the assistance of five other trade and business associations.
The operation time of the night market is every Saturday commencing at 5.00 pm and ending at 11.00 pm. The night market would feature exotic foods, beverage, value-added products and entertainment among others.
“We therefore would like to request the public to support this event by visiting our entrepreneurs participating in this night market. We are confident that all of you would find something interesting as well as time well spent visiting this Donggongon Nite Market,” Stephen added.
