“Teh Sang Suk Nai Chiffon Cake” clinches first prize at Sandakan Pastry Competition

SANDAKAN: The annual Sandakan Pastry Competition was successfully concluded recently with contestant Nurul Syamimi Ramsah winning over the judges with her unique creation, the “Teh Sang Suk Nai Chiffon Cake”, securing the first prize and a cash award of RM500.
The Sandakan Pastry Competition was first held two years ago in conjunction with the “Sandakan UFO Tart Day” on every May 5th, with the aim of encouraging participants to create a Sandakan-style pastry as popular as the famous UFO Tart.
According to organiser from San Da Gen Kopitiam, this is a celebration for our unique Malaysian and Sabahan food cultures. At the same time, they will take this opportunity to organise the annual Sandakan Pastry Competition, “where we hope to inspire the creation of another unique and special pastry item that can be enjoyed by all for decades to come, just like our UFO Tart.”
According to the panel of judges, the “Teh Sang Suk Nai Chiffon Cake,” – frosted with caramalised condensed milk cream, decorated with dots of evaporated milk custard and banana chips tuile was the clear winner among all the entries.
The organizers also expressed hope that next year’s Sandakan Pastry Competition will be even better, attracting more talented bakers and pastry makers to participate and becoming a key event in Sandakan’s culinary scene.
