KOTA KINABALU: The 2025 JCI Malaysia Area Sabah Convention attracted 101 young leaders from across Malaysia and overseas to host town, Keningau.
Themed “Catalyst of Change”, the convention, held from May 8 to 11, 2025, began in Kota Kinabalu and saw the delegates engaged in immersive programmes designed to foster leadership, connection, and community engagement.
Participants attended the area team meeting, the JCI vice president reception and dialogue, and the growth and development roundtable to learn from past leaders and shape the future direction of JCI in Sabah.
The delegates were treated to the Dusun culture at Kampung Nuntunan, Sungai Apin-Apin during a welcoming night to experience Sabahan hospitality.
They also engaged in activities that nurtured public speaking, critical thinking, and innovation before competing in parliamentary quiz, public speaking in Malay, English, and Mandarin as well as Mandarin and English debate to bring out the best of their intellectual and oratory talents.
The delegates also visited EcoYap Farm, which offered insight into sustainable agricultural practices and green entrepreneurship.
JCI Vice President Michael Sandjaja said: “It’s great to see a lot of young leaders collaborating with local youth leaders in Malaysia.
“I hope to see more cross-border collaboration between Sabah and other countries in the region.”
JCI Malaysia National President Tan Wei Jian enthused: “It’s encouraging to see all the local organisations in Sabah come together, especially in a new location like Keningau.
“I’m looking forward to the formation of new chapters and seeing more leaders from Area Sabah take roles on the national board.”
2025 JCI Malaysia National Executive Vice President Dr Jeremy Tong added: “This convention is made possible by the attendance and support of all our delegates.
“I appreciate all JCI members who came from all over Sabah, Sarawak, and even Peninsular Malaysia to Keningau. Your attendance inspired all of us here in Sabah.”
JCI Malaysia Area Sabah Convention Director Wilson Gan said: “Hosting such a prestigious event has given us a strong and meaningful boost.
“We hope to explore more opportunities for collaboration in both business and community development.”
JCI Tanjung Aru Local President Joanna Chong said: “Let’s carry forward the spirit of service, excellence, and leadership. We are not just building leaders. We are building better communities and a better world.”
