KINABATANGAN: The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (PDPA) here continues to monitor flood conditions in Pengkalan Bukit Garam following rising water levels since 23 May.
The latest reading shows water levels at 10.10 metres, surpassing the Warning Level (10 metres), and nearing the Danger Level (11 metres).
Low lying homes have been inundated and roads to the village are only accessible to four-wheel-drive vehicles.
Residents are advised to voluntarily relocate to the temporary evacuation centre at Pengkalan Bukit Garam Community Hall and bring important documents. As of now, there are no official reports of cut-off roads or isolated villages.
No official evacuations have been recorded so far, but four families have reportedly moved to the community hall on their own.
PDPA Kinabatangan will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates if there are any changes and residents are urged to remain vigilant and follow authorities’ instructions. – James Leong
