TAWAU: The cops here have arrested a suspect following a hit-and-run incident that injured a jogger at Mile 3 Jalan Apas early June 7 (Saturday).
The incident occurred at approximately 3.50am on June 7, 2025, near a fast-food restaurant. The victim was jogging towards Bandar Seri Indah with about 20 others, when he and two companions leading the group were struck from behind by a four-wheel drive vehicle (4WD).
The impact threw the victim into a concrete drain on the left side of the road. He sustained head injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the Tawau General Hospital, where his condition is reported as stable.
Acting on information, the district police arrested a 29-year-old driver in Jalan Tanjung Batu at about 4.05pm on June 9, to assist in the probe.
The 4WD believed to have been involved in the accident was also seized. Checks revealed the vehicle’s road tax had expired and its insurance coverage had lapsed.
The investigation under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (reckless and dangerous driving) and Section 52(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (failure to report an accident) is ongoing, OCPD ACP Jasmin Hussin said in a statement. – James Leong
