SANDAKAN: Representatives from the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) Sandakan branch visited a fisherman at the Duchess of Kent Hospital on Tuesday.
Also present with the PERKESO team during the visit were Sekong Community Development Leader Hazulizah Mohd Dani and staff from the Sekong Community Development Leader Unit (UPPM).
The victim, from Kampung Upak, Pulau Timbang near here, was attacked by a crocodile while catching fish at the river near the village on the morning of Monday, June 9.
He sustained severe injuries to his shoulder and body but survived the attack, before he was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The fisherman received a Kotak Prihatin PERKESO containing food items while PERKESO officers assisted him in filling out application form for PERKESO benefits.
This initiative reflects close cooperation between government agencies and the community in safeguarding public welfare.
Local residents are reminded to exercise caution when fishing and carrying out other activities in risk areas to avoid similar incidents. – James Leong
