SANDAKAN: A two-year-old boy was successfully rescued after being locked inside a four-wheel-drive vehicle (4WD) at the Petronas Batu 8 fuel station here yesterday.
The incident occurred at 12:39 pm while his mother was refuelling. The child’s mother realized he was locked inside and immediately contacted the Sandakan Civil Defence Force (APM) Operations Control Centre for assistance.
A team from the Sandakan APM, consisting of one officer and eight personnel, arrived at the scene at 12.51 pm, Sandakan APM officer Kapten (PA) Sulaiman Salama said.
Using specialized tools, the APM team managed to open the car door in just five minutes. The child was safely removed with no injuries reported, he added.
The operation concluded at 1.03 pm, and all personnel returned to the Sandakan APM Operations Control Centre, Sulaiman said.
Sulaiman advised the public to always keep car keys with them and avoid leaving them inside the vehicle, never leave young children unattended in a car, even for a short period and exercise extra caution during daily activities to prevent such incidents. – James Leong
