KOTA KINABALU: PKR Deputy President Nurul Izzah Anwar is grateful to be given the chance to meet late Zara Qairina Mahathir’s mother, Noraidah Lamat after waiting for two weeks.
“Two weeks ago, I flew from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu to meet Zara’s mother. However, at that time, she was not yet ready to meet,” said Nurul who was accompanied by Api-Api Assemblywoman Datuk Seri Christina Liew during the meeting.
“I am grateful that today I was given the opportunity to convey my condolences to her in person.
“What mother would not be heartbroken to see her child gone forever? As a mother myself, I truly feel the grief endured by Zara’s mother.
“She only wanted to see Zara grow up as usual—healthy and cheerful,” said Nurul.
Zara was like a daughter to us all. She was polite in character, noble in manners, and deeply committed to her religious faith. Her passing has united us across boundaries and differences, she said.
“I will not stop fighting until those responsible are brought to justice and a safe environment for our children is ensured.
“We will continue to follow and closely monitor every development of this case because every child has the right to grow up in a safe environment, free from fear and threats,” said Nurul.
She said it is our shared responsibility to remain vigilant, to protect, and to ensure that such tragedies never happen again.
“Let us continue to pray, make efforts, and place our trust in God—so that justice and truth will prevail, and that our beloved Zara’s soul will be placed among the righteous,” she said. – Wu Vuide
