SANDAKAN: The Sabah Marine Police raided a contraband cigarette storeroom and an illegal fuel depot in two separate operations here on Aug 19, following public tip offs.
In the first operation, a Sandakan Marine Police team, together with the Marine Police Strike Unit, raided a house in Taman Indah Jaya, Mile 4 at about 8.30pm.
The raid successfully seized 90,800 sticks of various cigarette brands, which were hidden inside plastic containers and one local suspect, aged 29, was arrested. The total estimated seizure value is RM129,618.
The case is being probed under the Customs Act 1967.
In a separate raid, the Sabah Marine Police Headquarters Intelligence Unit carried out a swoop on an illegal fuel depot at Mile 27.
During the operation, suspects were actively transferring fuel from several storage drums into a tanker truck, believed to be for sale to a syndicate.
Two local suspects, aged between 26 and 66, were arrested to assist in the investigation under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
The total estimated seizure value is RM228,935.
