SANDAKAN: Recurring issues with clogged toilets and sewerage systems in Bandar Kim Fung were brought directly to the attention of Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) Elopura N.55 candidate, Liau Fui Fui, during a recent walkabout and meeting with local traders and voters.
According to complaints from several shop owners, the persistent problem is primarily caused by the disposal of trash, food waste, and foreign objects into the sewerage system. A major contributing factor is the hardening of cooking oil and grease, which blocks pipe flow.
Upon receiving the complaints, Liau Fui Fui promptly contacted Jabatan Perkhidmatan Pembentungan Sabah (JPPS) to seek an immediate solution. The JPPS confirmed that a technical team would be dispatched to the location to conduct pipe unclogging work, drainage cleaning and a thorough inspection of the sewerage system’s condition.
Beyond the immediate response, Liau Fui Fui also stated her commitment to addressing the root cause of the issue. She will discuss with the relevant departments to establish long-term solutions, including preventative mechanisms to stop trash and oil from entering the pipe system, enhancing compliance among food handlers regarding the management of grease and solid waste and assessing the need for improvements to the existing infrastructure.
Liau Fui Fui, pledged to monitor the situation until the issue is fully resolved.
“I will ensure that the traders and residents of Bandar Kim Fung can enjoy a clean, comfortable, and safe environment,” she affirmed. – James Leong
