SANDAKAN: Police are investigating a fatal altercation between two brothers at their family home in Bandar Karamunting on November 30.
The victim, 43, was discovered around 5.30 pm by his mother after she found his bedroom door obstructed. He was pronounced dead at the scene with multiple severe wounds, said District Police Chief ACP George Abd. Rakman on Thursday.
Police confirmed that only the victim and his 44-year-old brother were present in the house at the time.
Following a report, personnel from the district Criminal Investigation Division arrested the older brother at 8.45 pm the same day. The suspect later led police to the recovery of a pair of blood-stained trousers and three machetes, believed to have been used in the incident.
“A preliminary examination found that the victim suffered injuries to the head, behind the ear, abdomen, and hand inflicted with a sharp object,” George stated.
The case has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Police are awaiting post-mortem results and investigation is ongoing to determine the motive.
A neighbour reported hearing distressed sounds from the property on the morning of November 28. Preliminary information suggests the suspect is unemployed and may have been facing mental health issues. He lived at the residence with other family members.
Separately, in Tawau, the Civil Defence Force reported that 117 individuals from 22 families affected by floods, were evacuated to the temporary shelter at Dewan Sri Balung, Mile 8, at 9.00 pm on Wednesday.
George said the case has been classified as
