TAWAU: A 39-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of secretly recording videos of his family members in the bathroom of a house in Kampung Tanjung Batu Laut on Sunday.
OCPD ACP Jasmin Hussin stated that the incident came to light when a 12-year-old girl discovered her stepfather’s mobile phone hidden in the toilet while it was still recording. The phone was subsequently handed over to her mother.
“Initial inspection found 10 compromising video clips involving the victim (the mother) and her children, believed to have been recorded without their knowledge while they were using the bathroom,” he explained.
The suspect, who works as a labourer, admitted to the act. The case is being investigated under Section 377D and Section 509 of the Penal Code.
In a separate case last Friday, a foreigner in his 30s was arrested for threatening to kill his 61-year-old mother-in-law in Kampung Haji Matahir, Jalan Merotai.
The victim was reportedly eating at her residence around noon when the suspect became aggressive and issued threats to kill and poison her. The victim then filed a report at the Bombalai Police Station. The suspect was arrested on the same day. Checks also revealed that his immigration documents had expired. This case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
On the same day (Friday), another foreigner in his 40s was arrested for allegedly raping his 19-year-old niece.
The incident is believed to have occurred at a house in Taman Semarak. The victim, who was later confirmed to be pregnant, informed her aunt before a police report was lodged.
The suspect, who is also the brother of the complainant’s husband, was arrested at a rented room in Bandar Sabindo less than 24 hours after the report. A records check revealed that the suspect has a prior offence related to drug abuse. The case is being investigated under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code and the Immigration Act 1959/63. – James Leong
