GLCs urged to play active role in assisting B40 group

TAMPARULI: The Sabah Government wants to ensure that no child from the B40 group is denied access to education opportunities.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 1.0 development plan had implemented various initiatives, including school assistance and scholarships, to narrow the education gap.
“These various educational assistance initiatives will be continued under the SMJ 2.0 development plan,” he said when presenting spectacles to schoolchildren under Sabah Electricity’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme at SK Tamparuli.
Hajiji’s speech was delivered by Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai.
“In this regard, I would like to emphasise that all State government-linked companies (GLCs) must play a more active role in assisting the B40 group,” he said.
“Contributing to society is not merely an option, but an obligation in line with the mandate behind the establishment of GLCs themselves.
“I want every GLC to continue implementing CSR programmes that are high-impact, focused and sustainable, to empower education, welfare and human capital development for Sabahans,” he added.
Hajiji also said that every initiative implemented must be monitored in a transparent and systematic manner, with periodic reports submitted to the government to ensure effectiveness and accountability.
“A holistic approach that balances operational performance, financial sustainability and social responsibility is in line with the government’s aspirations under SMJ 2.0,” he said.
He expressed hope that the CSR contribution would motivate recipients to remain focused on their studies.
Those present included Tenaga Nasional Berhad chairman Tan Sri Abdul Razak Abdul Majid and Sabah Electricity chairperson Saadiah Aziz.
