SANDAKAN: A five-meter-long python created a stir among residents of PPR Taman Harmoni early Tuesday as they were having their pre-dawn meal (sahur).
The uninvited guest, estimated to weigh around 30 kilogrammes, was discovered by the roadside of the housing area situated off Mile 3 ½ Jalan Utara. Public concern prompted an individual to make an emergency call to the district Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) for immediate assistance.
Upon receiving the report, a team from the district APM Operations Centre immediately rushed to the location. The reptile was successfully caught using special equipment by the APM.
According to a district APM spokesperson, the operation concluded around 12.45 am without any untoward incidents, and the situation at the location returned to normal.
The district APM advised the public to always remain vigilant, especially at night or in the early morning. The public is also urged to immediately contact the emergency hotline if they encounter any wildlife that could threaten safety. – James Leong
