KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Peter Anthony has been released on parole from Kajang Prison and allowed to return to Sabah.
However, so far, there has been no official statement from any party to confirm the release of the President of the Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM).
According to sources, Peter is currently at his home in the rural district to serve part of the three-year prison sentence.
It is understood that Peter has reached the maturity period to qualify him to apply for parole detention.
Previously, Peter was sentenced to three years in jail after being convicted of falsifying supporting documents to obtain a contract at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) in 2014.
Peter tried to appeal shortly afterwards but failed when the Court of Appeal upheld his conviction and jail sentence in addition to a fine of RM50,000.
Meanwhile, Sabah Police Commissioner, Datuk Jauteh Dikun when met refused to comment further on the matter.
He said that so far, his party has not received any official notice on the matter from any party.
“Parole is brought under the jurisdiction of the Prison Department and not brought by the police. So far, we have not received any further information that is official,” he said.
