Man arrested for stealing sister’s gold ring

TAWAU: Police arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly stealing his own sister’s gold ring, in a case that highlights how crime can strike even within families.
The suspect was detained about 10.15 am on March 31 by the district Criminal Investigation Division at Jalan Kampung Hidayat. He is believed to have taken a gold ring belonging to his sibling from their shared residence in Batu 5, Jalan Apas.
According to OCPD ACP Jasmin Hussin, the victim filed a police report last Saturday at 6.43 pm after noticing the ring had gone missing the previous day.
“Following intelligence and investigative leads, police successfully traced and arrested the suspect,” he said.
A subsequent raid at a goldsmith shop along Jalan Chester around 12.30 pm led to the recovery of the ring, along with a sales receipt bearing the suspect’s name.
Jasmin confirmed that the suspect has no prior criminal record and is currently in remand. The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building.
He stressed that police would not tolerate criminal conduct, regardless of the relationship between those involved.
“There is no compromise when it comes to the law. Every theft case will be thoroughly investigated, and action will be taken against those found guilty,” he said.
Jasmin also reminded the public to remain vigilant in safeguarding their belongings, even from family members.
“Crime does not recognise family ties. If you experience any loss or come across suspicious activity, report it to the police immediately,” he added. – James Leong
