Teenager’s pregnancy leads to arrest of three men in Tawau

TAWAU: Two separate incidents were reported in the district on April 8 involving a teenage girl found to be pregnant as a result of rape, and a local man who went on a rampage and threatened a woman with a pair of scissors.
In the first case, a teenage girl was taken to hospital by her older sister after complaining of pain in her private parts. A medical examination later revealed that the teen was pregnant.
The girl later confessed to her sister that she had engaged in sexual relations with a man she knew at a hotel. A police report was subsequently filed.
According to Tawau OCPD ACP Jasmin Hussin, a team from the district’s Criminal Investigation Division tracked down and arrested two foreigners, both in their 30s, on suspicion of involvement in the case.
“The arrest of the two suspects then led to the detention of a third suspect in front of a factory at Mile 3, Jalan Apas. The third suspect is also a foreigner, aged 29, working as a factory labourer,” he said.
Background checks revealed that none of the suspects had any prior criminal records. They were taken to the police station for further action.
“The case is being investigated under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code (rape) and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (failing to produce valid identification documents),” Jasmin added.
In a separate incident, a 58-year-old woman encountered a man she knew at her home in Kampung Hidayat, Mile 4 Jalan Apas. When she scolded him for lighting candles in the living room during the daytime, he allegedly pointed a pair of scissors at her.
“A Police Mobile Patrol Unit on receiving information, proceeded to the scene to arrest the suspect, aged 35, and also seized a pair of scissors believed to have been used in the incident,” said Jasmin.
The suspect and the confiscated item were taken to the police station for further probe. The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code (criminal intimidation). – James Leong
