SEMPORNA: The Semporna Magistrate’s Court has sentenced 15 individuals to imprisonment, fines, and police supervision in separate proceedings involving drug-related and property offences.
All cases were presided over by Don Stiwin Malanjum, with prosecution handled by Inspector Muhammad Nur Faez Hazreeq Abdullah.
Summary of sentences – drug offences (positive urine tests & drug possession); 8 individuals sentenced to between 8 and 14 months’ imprisonment for drug possession (quantities ranging from 0.08g to 4.67g); 2 individuals sentenced to 9 months’ imprisonment for testing positive for drugs; 1 individual fined RM2,500 (or 7 months’ jail) plus 2 years of police supervision.
Several foreign nationals to be handed over to the Immigration Department upon completion of their sentences.
Property and other offences – 6 individuals sentenced to between 6 and 18 months’ imprisonment for offences including disposing of stolen property, possessing stolen property, criminal mischief by damaging a premises, and house trespass; 1 individual fined RM100 for failing to provide a reasonable explanation regarding possession of prohibited items.
Sentences were handed down on April 8 and 9.
Semporna OCPD Superintendent Tan Hiap Wah reiterated that police will not compromise with any individual involved in criminal activities. He urged the public to continue channelling information to assist in crime prevention efforts, ensuring the safety and public order of the local community. – James Leong
