TAWAU: A four-wheel-drive vehicle (4WD) skidded and crashed into a lamp post before striking the bonnet of a Proton Saga at Batu 11, Jalan Apas, on Monday.
The incident, which occurred around 5.15 pm, left a male passenger with a broken right shoulder.
OCPD ACP Jasmin Hussin, said police received a report at 5.25 pm. Initial investigations revealed that the 4WD, driven by a 44-year-old man, was traveling from Kampung Inderasabah towards Batu 4, Jalan Apas. The driver and his 41-year-old male passenger had just completed electrical cable repair work for SESB.
“Upon reaching a bend at the scene, the driver of the 4WD is believed to have lost control. The vehicle skidded and dragged for almost 35 metres. It then mounted the road divider before crashing into a lamp post, which subsequently fell and struck the front bonnet of a Proton Saga coming from the opposite direction,” he said.
He added that the Proton Saga was driven by a 35-year-old woman who was heading from Petron Sri Indah, Batu 10, Jalan Apas towards Kampung Mambalua.
“As a result of the crash, both drivers escaped injury. However, the passenger in the 4WD suffered a broken right shoulder and was taken to Tawau Hospital for further treatment,” he said.
“The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road,” Jasmin said.
Jasmin also advised the public to always drive carefully, especially on bends, and to ensure their vehicles are in good working condition before use to prevent accidents. – James Leong
