SANDAKAN: Members of the Sandakan Forwarders Association, led by its Chairman Chong Thien Ming, attended a quarterly meeting with Sabah Ports to discuss port planning and upcoming developments.
Chong said key projects presented during the meeting included the demolition of an existing warehouse to make way for a new container yard, the construction of a shade covering for the oil pipeline at the Karamunting oil jetty as part of an extension plan, and the proposed transfer of a container crane from Tawau Port to Sandakan Port.
Several operational matters involving container cranes, forklifts, and stackers were also highlighted. Although some of the equipment is ageing, the association urged Sabah Ports to conduct proper inspections and repairs to ensure the machinery remains in good working condition. Chong further suggested establishing a dedicated maintenance team to oversee the upkeep of these machines.
The meeting was chaired by group managing director Datuk Ahmad Rizal Dahli, together with deputy general manager (operations) Captain Ramesh Raj. According to Chong, the discussion went smoothly, with most issues receiving positive attention, while the procurement of new assets is currently being processed.
He added that the next quarterly meeting is expected to be held in September, barring any unforeseen circumstances. – James Leong
