KOTA KINABALU: Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah Tun Musa Aman has called on Sabahans to continue preserving the state’s unity, cultural heritage and spirit of togetherness as they celebrate Pesta Kaamatan 2026.
In his Kaamatan message, Musa and his wife, Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, extended their warm wishes to all Sabahans celebrating the harvest festival.
“Kotobian Tadau Tagazo Do Kaamatan,” he said.
Musa described Kaamatan as one of Sabah’s most treasured cultural celebrations, rooted in gratitude for a bountiful harvest and traditions passed down through generations.
He said although the role of paddy cultivation has evolved with modernisation, the true essence of Kaamatan as a celebration of thanksgiving, unity and mutual respect remains unchanged.
Musa said Sabah’s diversity, comprising more than 30 ethnic groups and numerous sub-ethnic communities, continues to be the state’s greatest strength.
He noted that Kaamatan has grown into a unifying celebration embraced by all communities regardless of race, religion or background.
“The harmony and understanding shared among Sabahans continue to serve as an example to the nation,” he said.
Musa also urged Sabahans to reject divisive rhetoric, extremism and narrow sentiments that could threaten the unity and goodwill nurtured over generations.
On development, he said no community or region should be left behind as Sabah moves towards greater economic growth and progress.
He stressed the importance of continued emphasis on education, skills training, infrastructure development, digital connectivity and economic opportunities, particularly in rural and interior areas.
Musa said the younger generation must also be equipped with knowledge, discipline, resilience and strong values to contribute meaningfully towards Sabah’s future.
At the same time, he called on Sabahans to continue preserving and honouring cultural traditions, indigenous heritage and values inherited from past generations.
“The traditions, languages, arts and customs of our communities are invaluable treasures that form the identity and soul of Sabah,” he said.
Musa said it was the collective responsibility of all Sabahans to ensure these cultural legacies continue to thrive for future generations.
As Sabahans celebrate Kaamatan with family and loved ones, he encouraged the people to reflect on the importance of gratitude, compassion and unity while working together towards a peaceful, progressive and prosperous Sabah.

Musa and Faridah wish all Sabahans Kotobian Tadau Tagazo Do Kaamatan.
