Vivian Wong ends tenure as Sabah LPKP chairperson

SANDAKAN: Member of Parliament Vivian Wong Shir Yee expressed her gratitude to Transport Minister Anthony Loke for the opportunity to serve as the Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) chairperson from 2024 until 6 June 2026.
She also thanked all Sabah LPKP staff for their cooperation throughout her service, expressing confidence that the new leadership will continue strengthening policies and improving service quality for the benefit of the people and industry players in Sabah. She spoke after a visit to the Sabah LPKP office on Friday.
During her two-year tenure, key initiatives included policy alignment between LPKP Sabah and Sarawak, coordination of cross-border issues involving Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei to strengthen the logistics industry, and resolution of airport taxi issues including cabotage and additional vehicle colour options.
Metered taxi issues were resolved by allowing conversion to the “Hire Car (Zone)” category without requiring a colour change, reducing drivers’ costs. The board also simplified licence application and renewal processes by reducing excessive documentation requirements.
The iSPKP online application system was launched in January 2024 to facilitate licensing, while safety standards for commercial vehicles were enhanced through GPS implementation and the MIROS TrackScore system. Other achievements include approving executive express bus services, launching the Sabah Hop-On Hop-Off bus service, coordinating SBST routes, and launching Bas.My d on 11 October 2025.
The Sabah Cabinet approved RM3.7 million for new bus stop construction and upgrades along SBST routes. The board also resolved e-hailing issues including monthly fuel subsidy applications, and addressed matters related to stage bus and taxi licences.
Vivian added that while many improvements were successfully implemented, she believes there is still room for further enhancement in line with the development of Sabah’s public transport and logistics industry. – James Leong
