KINABATANGAN: A 56-year-old man was killed and a 53-year-old woman was injured after the Toyota Hilux Single Cab they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a roadside ditch in Kampung Paris 2, Kinabatangan, on Sunday.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Ministry of Health (KKM), while the female passenger sustained injuries and was later transported to Lahad Datu Hospital via a family vehicle.
According to the Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station, an emergency call was received at 1.06 pm, with fire engines arriving at the location—approximately 50 kilometres from the station—at 1.51 pm.
Upon arrival, rescue teams found both victims still trapped inside the overturned vehicle. Firefighters successfully extricated them, with the operation led by PBK I Mohamud Punya. The response was a multi-agency effort, involving personnel from the police and the Ministry of Health.
The scene was declared safe and operations concluded at 3.15 pm. The deceased victim’s remains have been handed over to the police for further action. – James Leong
