SANDAKAN: SMK Telupid and SJK(C) Chi Hwa emerged as the overall champions at the 32nd Sandakan Division Inter-School Karate Championship 2026, held on July 11 and at Dewan Sibuga Jaya here.
The two-day competition saw participation from 17 secondary schools and 21 primary schools across the division.
SMK Telupid dominated the secondary school category, amassing eight gold, eight silver, and five bronze medals. The championship trophy was presented by Max Million Lee, Tanjong Papat Community Development Officer, who represented Sandakan MP Vivian Wong Shir Yee as the guest of honour.
In the primary school category, SJK(C) Chi Hwa claimed the top spot with an impressive haul of five gold, two silver, and six bronze medals. The prize was presented by Alex Lim, Chairman of the Sandakan Karate Association.
The championship was organised by the Sandakan Karate Association, with Lily Linus serving as the championship director.
The event showcased the growing talent and competitive spirit among young karatekas in the Sandakan Division, with participating teams displaying exceptional skill and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. – James Leong
