SANDAKAN: Two women were successfully rescued after being trapped inside a lift on the sixth floor of Wisma Persekutuan, Mile 7 for nearly 35 minutes due to a sudden power disruption early Tuesday morning.
Sandakan District Civil Defence Force (APM) Officer, Kapten (PA) Sulaiman Salama, said the department received an emergency call from the public at 7.32 am, prompting a rescue team to be dispatched to the scene immediately.
He added that when the team arrived, the electricity supply had already been restored. However, the lift doors remained jammed, leaving the two women still stranded inside.
APM Sandakan personnel successfully pried open the lift doors using specialised equipment at 8.04 am. Both women were brought out safely and did not sustain any injuries.
The rescue operation concluded shortly after. The APM reminded the public to always exercise caution and to promptly report any emergency situations involving public facilities to the authorities. – James Leong
