SANDAKAN: Three persons including two children were injured after a tree fell onto the kitchen section of a house in Kampung Gum-Gum Kecil, Mile 16, here on Thursday night.
The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received an emergency call at 10.04pm and despatched a team of six personnel from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station to the scene, located about 23 kilometres from the station.
Led by Operation Commander PBK I Syamzari Ganih, the team arrived at 10.31pm and confirmed that a fallen tree had crushed the rear kitchen area of the house, causing an estimated 40 per cent structural damage.
The three injured occupants were identified as Muhaini Awang, 47, Dayang Daphne Danisha Terrence, 11, and Dayang Azzwenna Aqillah Hazis, 11. All were taken to hospital by medical personnel from the Ministry of Health (MOH) for further treatment.
Firemen used a chainsaw to cut and remove the fallen tree before securing the area. After conducting a thorough inspection and confirming there were no further hazards, the operation was concluded at 9.10am on Friday. – James Leong
