KOTA KINABALU: Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the ministry currently has no plans to establish official Sabah Tourism Board (STB) branches in Sandakan and Tawau.
He said coordination, promotion and tourism development in the East Coast of Sabah would continue to be carried out through the STB headquarters in Kota Kinabalu.
This would be done in close cooperation with relevant agencies, local authorities, District Tourism Action Committees (JTPD), tourism associations and industry players in Sandakan and Tawau.
He added that the ministry, together with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), was planning to establish an office in Semporna.
The office would strengthen service delivery and application management in the East Coast of Sabah.
Jafry said this when replying to Warisan-Tanjung Papat Assemblyman Alex Thien Ching Qiang during the question-and-answer session at the 17th State Legislative Assembly sitting.
Thien had asked whether the Sabah Government planned to establish official STB offices or branches in Sandakan and Tawau.
He also asked whether full-time officers would be provided to strengthen coordination, promotion and management of tourism issues in the East Coast of Sabah. – Paul Mu
