SANDAKAN: Efforts to relocate more than 40 bodies affected by a landslide at the Kampung Sim-Sim Muslim Cemetery three months ago was conducted smoothly on Sunday.
All of the remains were reburied collectively in a single grave on a flat area within the same cemetery grounds.
The operation was carried out by the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAINS) Sandakan branch, in collaboration with the Tanjong Papat Community Development Leader Unit, Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS), district police, the cemetery committee, family members of the deceased, and local residents.
Speaking to the media, JHEAINS Sandakan Religious Administration Officer Rahmin Arman said the relocation was conducted following the advice of the Sabah Mufti, which stipulated that all remains be re-interred collectively in one suitable grave. This approach aligns with Islamic law and upholds the sanctity and dignity of the deceased.
Also present during the relocation process were the Head of the District Police Internal Security and Public Order Division DSP Sham Osman, MPS Deputy President Farizal Setoh and Chairman of the Kampung Sim-Sim Islamic Cemetery Committee, Aslan Ebel. – James Leong
