LAHAD DATU: A mechanical workshop was completely destroyed in a fire early Sunday, with the blaze engulfing the entire structure before firefighters could bring it under control.
The State Fire and Rescue Operations Centre received an emergency call through MERS999 regarding the incident at Min Mekanikal Service at 7.41 am. A team of 18 firefighters from the Lahad Datu Fire Station, led by Operation Commander PBK I Mohd Akbar Mohambar, was immediately despatched to the scene, arriving just two minutes later at 7.43 am.
Upon arrival, the commander reported that the fire involved a permanent, single-storey workshop structure which was 100% engulfed in flames. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
Firefighters initiated a firefighting operation sourcing water supply from the fire engine’s tank and a nearby fire hydrant.
The fire was brought under control at 8.10 am. The authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire and estimating the total loss incurred. – James Leong
