SANDAKAN: A wooden house at Residensi Borneo Cove, Jalan Buli Sim-Sim, was nearly destroyed in a fire that broke out on Wednesday morning, with no casualties reported.
The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received an emergency call via the NG999 emergency line at 11.03 am. Firefighters from the Sandakan fire station, situated just 2 kilometres from the scene, arrived at 11.06 am—only three minutes after the alert was raised.
Officer-in-Charge of station Jimmy Lagung stated that a team of 15 personnel was deployed to tackle the blaze. They utilised a single 200-foot hose line equipped with two water jets to suppress the flames, drawing their water supply directly from the fire engine’s onboard tanker.
The fire was brought under control by 11.08 am, just two minutes after firefighters reached the location. The blaze was extinguished and post-fire overhaul operations were completed at 12.38 pm.
Jimmy Lagung confirmed that no individuals were trapped, injured, or otherwise involved in the incident. The single-storey structure, which measures 30 feet by 50 feet, sustained extensive damage.
“We have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and to assess the total value of property losses,” he added. – James Leong
