TAWAU: A 43-year-old man was killed in a fatal road accident involving a motorcycle and a rigid lorry along Jalan Timur on Monday afternoon.
The victim, who worked as a lorry attendant, was riding his motorcycle when he reportedly lost control and swerved into the oncoming lane, crashing head-on into the lorry. The incident occurred at about 3.30 pm.
OCPD ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said preliminary investigations revealed that the lorry, driven by a 62-year-old local man, was travelling alone from the Air Panas area towards Eastern Engineering on Jalan Timur at the time of the collision.
The motorcyclist sustained severe injuries to his head and legs and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical officers. Police were notified of the accident at around 4.11 pm.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
