SEMPORNA: The State Marine Police seized over 11 kilogrammes of suspected methamphetamine (syabu) during an operation in the waters off Kampung Terusan Hujung, Pulau Bum Bum, here on early Monday.
During the incident at about 1.45 am, a marine police team, acting on intelligence regarding drug distribution activities, detected a suspicious speedboat. However, as they attempted to approach, a man onboard the vessel jumped into the sea and fled towards the shore. Search efforts were conducted but failed to locate the suspect.
An inspection of the abandoned boat uncovered 11 packages containing clear crystalline lumps suspected to be syabu, with an estimated gross weight of 11.06 kilogrammes. The seized drugs are valued at over RM550,000, while the total value of the confiscated items—including the boat—exceeds RM578,000.
“The case is being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. He also reported that for the year 2026, Sabah Marine Police recorded 15 cases under the same act involving 24 arrests, with a total seizure value exceeding RM718,000,” State Marine Police commander ACP Ahmad Amri Abd Rahman disclosed.
He firmly asserted that the State Marine Police will continue to intensify intelligence-gathering and conduct integrated patrols in collaboration with the State Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department to combat drug trafficking and smuggling activities that threaten public safety and well-being. – James Leong
