SEMPORNA: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) carried out a medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) operation to transfer a Chinese national working at a resort on Tubing Island, here who was suspected of suffering a broken bone after a fall.
The incident was reported to the Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) Kota Kinabalu, which subsequently relayed the information to the Semporna MMEA for further action.
Following the report, the Semporna MMEA mobilised an asset to conduct the MEDEVAC operation and ensure the injured worker was transferred promptly to hospital for further medical assessment and treatment.
The operation was carried out with the safety and well-being of the casualty given top priority, particularly given the challenges of accessing medical facilities from island and maritime areas.
Sabah and Labuan MMEA Director Laksamana Pertama Maritim Mohd Khairulanuar Abd Majid @ Razali said the swift response demonstrated Maritime Malaysia’s commitment to safeguarding the safety and welfare of the maritime community.
“MMEA is always prepared to mobilise its assets and personnel to provide emergency assistance to anyone in need, particularly those in island and maritime areas where access to medical facilities can be challenging.
“Fast information-sharing and cooperation among the relevant parties are crucial to ensuring immediate action can be taken and that casualties receive the necessary medical attention without delay,” he said.
MMEA reiterated that the preservation of life remains its top priority. The agency will continue to ensure that its assets and personnel remain at the highest level of readiness to carry out enforcement, search and rescue, and emergency assistance operations in the country’s waters. – James Leong
