KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) has successfully detained 164 illegal immigrants (PATI), including children, in 10 raid operations carried out in several districts over three days.
The operation, which began on August 11, was carried out in several strategic locations believed to be the focus of foreign nationals.
According to a statement issued by a spokesman for the Sabah Immigration Department, he said that throughout the operation, it successfully conducted inspections on 575 foreign individuals.
He said that as a result of the inspection, the police managed to arrest a total of 114 Filipinos, including 58 men and 36 adult women, as well as 20 children.
“The operations team also managed to arrest 48 Indonesian citizens, consisting of 22 men and 16 adult women, as well as 10 children.
“Two Pakistani men were also arrested after failing to produce valid identification documents,” he said in a media statement yesterday.
According to him, the Sabah Immigration Department will continue to intensify enforcement operations continuously at strategic locations throughout the district to ensure compliance with immigration laws and combat the presence of illegal immigrants.
He said, at the same time, the public is also reminded not to protect, employ or assist foreigners who violate the country’s laws.
“The public is asked to help channel information on illegal immigrant activities to the Immigration Department’s official channels to assist with enforcement actions,” he said. – Fardy Bungga
