SANDAKAN: The Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) served as the second official stop for the Merdeka Jalur Gemilang and Sabah Day 2026 Convoy in the Sandakan district on Aug 19.
MPS President, Datuk Walter Kenson, personally welcomed the convoy upon its arrival at the Wisma Perbandaran Sandakan compound. The arrival of the convoy, carrying the spirit of independence and national pride, was met with a rousing reception from MPS staff and local officials who had gathered to show their support.
In his brief remarks, Walter emphasised that the convoy serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by past leaders in securing Sabah’s place within Malaysia. He also called on the younger generation to uphold the spirit of unity and patriotism, adding that such initiatives are vital in keeping the nation’s historical journey alive in the hearts of the people.
Following the ceremony, Walter officially flagged off the convoy to proceed to its next destination, Sandakan Prison. The convoy concluded its Sandakan leg at the Kampung Batu Putih Multi-Purpose Hall, Batu 7, before continuing its journey to the Beluran district.
