KOTA KINABALU: The need for a stronger collective voice for homestay operators has led to the establishment of Persatuan Pengusaha Kluster Inap Desa Sabah (PPKIDS).
The new association, which is open to all homestay operators, will be officially launched in Kota Kinabalu in November 2026, said its deputy president, Alexsius Sagun.
Ahead of the launch, PPKIDS conducted a three-day roadshow around Sabah from Aug 7 to 9 to introduce the association and recruit members.
The delegation, which included secretary Bibiana Peter and treasurer Emalia Ribin, visited six homestay clusters in Ranau, Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu and Semporna for engagement sessions with operators.
Its adviser and liaison officer, Jeffery Hosil, helped coordinate the programme.
Alexsius said the visits also gave operators an opportunity to raise issues affecting their businesses.
“The association plans to bring their concerns to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac), Sabah Tourism Board and Tourism Malaysia,” he said.
He thanked the cluster coordinators and operators for their cooperation, including those who registered as members during the roadshow.
Alexsius said PPKIDS would focus on members’ welfare, strengthening homestays and supporting community development through greater cooperation among operators.
