SANDAKAN: A 26-year-old worker sustained injuries to his right hand after his fingers became trapped in a fish grinding machine at a sea product factory in Sedco Light Industrial Area here yesterday.
The emergency call was received at 2.11 pm, prompting an immediate response from an eight-member team from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP). Led by Operations Commander, PBK I Syamzari Ganih, the team rushed to the scene, which was located approximately two kilometres from the station.
Arriving at 2.14 pm, the firefighters found the victim, identified as Muhammad Irwa, with his finger still firmly lodged inside the machinery. The rescue team promptly deployed specialised extraction equipment to carefully free the trapped digit.
After successfully releasing the victim, firefighters administered initial first aid at the scene. Muhammad Irwa was subsequently transported via a Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) ambulance to Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan for further medical treatment.
The rescue operation concluded at 3.25 pm, after the Operations Commander confirmed that there was no further danger. – James Leong
