Landslide forces closure of Jalan Buli Sim-Sim in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: A landslide at Jalan Buli Sim-Sim near the Pau Kung Chinese Temple here prompted authorities to close the road for safety reasons on Saturday night.
The Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call via the NG MERS 999 line at 9.19 pm. A fire engine arrived at the scene at 9.27 pm, about 5km away, said officer-in-charge of station Jimmy Lagung.
Nine personnel were deployed: six with the Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), two with the Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS), and one officer in a utility vehicle, he added.
“The team confirmed the landslide at Jalan Sim-Sim. The affected area was far from residential premises but posed a risk to users of the main road,” Jimmy said.
Four policemen and six Civil Defence Force personnel were at the scene to assist in the operation. At 9.50pm, efforts were made to contact the Public Works Department (JKR) for further action. Jimmy arrived at the scene at 10.00 pm.
According to Jimmy, following discussions with the District Disaster Committee, it was found that the landslide stretched about 150 metres, and the road was closed as a safety measure. The operation concluded at 11.06 pm. No casualties were reported. – James Leong
