MPS confiscates nine hawkers’ items for defying warning

SANDAKAN: The Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) Enforcement Department took decisive action by confiscating items from nine hawkers who were still operating at the parking lot in front of a financial institution at Prima Square on Wednesday night.
During the operation conducted at 8.44 pm, all nine hawkers were found to have continued their businesses despite having previously received formal warning notices from the enforcement authorities. Their failure to heed the warning against trading in the parking area prompted MPS to proceed with the seizure in order to enforce discipline among the hawkers.
According to a source from the enforcement department, the confiscation was necessary as the hawkers not only flouted the official warnings but also misused public parking spaces, which could potentially lead to traffic congestion and inconvenience for other motorists and visitors.
Several items used for their businesses were seized during the operation, including four tables, one beverage dispenser, one small basket and one mini portable fan.
MPS reminded all hawkers to always comply with the established regulations and to operate only at designated locations. Continuous enforcement operations will be carried out to ensure that the Prima Square area remains orderly, clean, and safe for the public. – James Leong
