Workshop in Libaran empowers parents to face digital age challenges

SANDAKAN: Libaran Member of Parliament Datuk Suhaimi Hj Nasir emphasized that the role of parents in raising children should not be taken lightly, requiring knowledge, awareness, and wise approaches, especially in today’s world filled with challenges such as social media influence and life pressures.
“Parents are the cornerstone in shaping future generations. Therefore, parenting skills should not be underestimated. They demand patience, knowledge, and effective approaches,” he said during the opening ceremony of the Parenting Skills Workshop Series 1, Libaran Parliamentary Level at PPR Taman Muhibbah Hall, Mile 12, on Thursday.
His speech was delivered by Libaran Parliamentary Chief Liaison Officer Zaini Tiksun.
He noted that the workshop, organized by the Sandakan District Community Development Department (KEMAS), is a timely initiative aligned with the needs of today’s society and the spirit of Malaysia MADANI, which emphasizes love, mutual respect, and shared responsibility.
Suhaimi, who is also Sabah UMNO Information Chief, stressed that such workshops provide parents with opportunities to gain knowledge, share experiences, and improve their approaches in raising children to foster harmonious families, disciplined youth, and a prosperous society.
“This workshop focuses on key topics, including effective family communication, emotional management, and parenting in the digital age, which are highly relevant to current challenges,” he said.
“I strongly support KEMAS’ efforts in empowering parents in the Libaran area. Stable and well-functioning families are the foundation of societal and national progress,” he added.
The Libaran UMNO Division Chief hoped that similar programmes would be conducted regularly and expanded to other areas within the Libaran parliamentary constituency.
Suhaimi urged more stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community leaders, to participate in strengthening family institutions. – James Leong
