KOTA KINABALU: A woman is believed to have been the victim of a brutal murder after her remains were discovered at a rubbish disposal site in Taman Indah Permai here yesterday morning.
The victim’s body parts, which had been cut into several sections, are believed to have been disposed of after the killing took place at another location. The discovery was made by waste collection workers at about 7.00 am.
At this stage, the identity of the victim, whose remains were found at two separate rubbish disposal sites, has yet to be established.
Acting Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief, Superintendent Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman, said police received information regarding the discovery of human body parts at approximately 8.00 am.
Following the report, a team of officers and personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters (IPD) was deployed to the scene to conduct further investigations.
“Preliminary inspections found several human body parts inside rubbish bins and around the shop-lot area in Indah Permai.
“All parts recovered are believed to belong to the same individual. However, the victim’s identity has not yet been confirmed,” he said in a media statement yesterday.
According to him, efforts are currently underway to identify the victim and locate the next of kin.
He added that the Police Forensic Team, the Forensic Unit of Queen Elizabeth Hospital I (HQE I), as well as the K9 Unit, have carried out detailed examinations at the scene to collect evidence and assist in the investigation.
“Based on initial observations, police do not rule out the possibility that the victim was killed at another location before the body parts were dumped in the shop-lot area.
“Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of death, the modus operandi of the incident, and the individuals involved.
“The victim’s remains have been sent to the Forensic Department of HQE I, and a post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted at 8.30 am tomorrow,” he said.
Syed Lot said further investigations are being conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
“Members of the public who have any information related to this incident are urged to come forward to assist investigations by contacting the Investigating Officer, Assistant Superintendent Rahman, at +60 12-310 6882.
