KOTA KINABALU: The State Government has welcomed the Federal Youth and Sports Ministry’s commitment to introduce more youth and sports development initiatives in Sabah.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the Federal Government’s initiatives would complement the State Government’s ongoing efforts to develop human capital and sports in the state.
“Sports are also an important platform for fostering unity,” he said during a meeting with Federal Youth and Sports Minister Dr Muhammed Taufiq Johari at Menara Kinabalu.
Also present were State Youth Development, Sports Advancement and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan and Permanent Secretary Datuk Mansur Asun.
During the courtesy call, Dr Muhammed informed Hajiji that his ministry had earmarked several programmes for sports and youth development in Sabah.
He said Sabah also has the potential to develop a niche market, particularly in sports tourism.
Dr Muhammed also commended Sabah for its commitment in sending a contingent of 200 youths to support the National Youth Day celebration, which will be held in Negeri Sembilan in the middle of this month.
