SANDAKAN: The Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) will host an engagement session with business operators and the public on August 27 to strengthen communication between local authorities, the commercial community, and residents, while mapping out strategies to rejuvenate the local economy.
The programme, themed “MPS Facilitates, Sandakan Advances – Towards Revitalising Sandakan’s Economy,” will run from 8.00 am to 12.00 pm at the Sandakan Community Hall. All shop owners in the city centre and members of the public are encouraged to attend and actively share their views on urban development, the business environment, and actionable measures to boost economic activity.
According to MPS, the session provides a direct dialogue platform for the council to hear feedback and suggestions from premises owners, traders, and residents regarding downtown development, business conditions, and economic recovery efforts. During the session, MPS representatives will hold in‑ depth discussions with delegates from various sectors to gain a clearer understanding of the real-world challenges and needs that traders face in their daily operations.
Discussions are expected to focus on practical improvements to enhance the appeal and vibrancy of the city centre’s commercial areas, attract more visitors, and create new investment opportunities – all aimed at fostering sustained local economic growth.
MPS stressed that input from the business community is vital in helping the council formulate policies and development approaches that are better aligned with ground realities. Through face-to-face interaction, the council hopes to synthesise diverse experiences, expertise, and perspectives into more comprehensive solutions for Sandakan’s future.
In light of this, shop owners, business associations, and all citizens who care about Sandakan’s progress are urged to attend and participate actively.
