Two local men arrested in Tawau in separate incidents

TAWAU: Police arrested two local men in two separate incidents – one suspected of causing serious injury to a three-year-old boy, and another for cable theft at a warehouse, causing losses of about RM30,000.
OCPD ACP Jasmin Hussin said a 37-year-old local man was detained for allegedly causing severe injury to his three-year-old nephew in a village at Mile 5, Jalan Apas on May 17. The boy is believed to have suffered injuries to his right ear and swelling on his left shoulder after being slapped and stepped on by his uncle.
The child’s father realised the abuse around 1.00 pm and filed a police report. Acting on information, police arrested the suspect at an unnumbered house along Jalan MRSM, around 10.00 am. The suspect, who has a prior drug-related record, is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
In a separate case, a 23-year-old local man was arrested for allegedly stealing cables from a warehouse at Jalan Tanjung Batu Logpond, causing RM30,000 in losses. He was picked up at a recycling premises on May 18 at 6.00 pm following a report filed on May 13 about missing ceiling wire cables. Police seized 2 kg of copper wire and a purchase receipt. The suspect has multiple past records for drug and theft offences and is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code. – James Leong
