LAHAD DATU: A collision between a four-wheel-drive vehicle (4WD) and a palm oil trailer left three persons dead at Mile 16 Jalan Lahad Datu-Sandakan on Tuesday night.
The Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call at 8:52pm through MERS 999, with responders arriving at the accident scene within 23 minutes, Operations Commander PBK I Mohammad Akbar Mohambar said.
The three fatalities in the 4WD were Mohd Azizi, 28 (driver), Muhammad Zulkhairi Ismail, 29, and Mohd Rasman Ahmat Kechil, 28 (passengers).
The trailer driver, Abd Kadir Lanusa, 61, sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital for further treatment. The rescue operation involving 12 firefighters, four police personnel and two medical teams, concluded at 12:.40am on Wednesday.
In a separate incident, a search and rescue operation currently ongoing for Mansius Yahsu, 39, last seen on June 24 while returning from visiting his mother in Kampung Sinaputan to his home in Kg Asuan, Telupid – located 76 km from Beluran.
Beluran Fire and Rescue Station deployed three personnel to join the search operation after being notified at 10:19am on July 2. The effort also includes police personnel, Civil Defence Force members and local villagers. – James Leong
