Two men arrested, 52 bunches of oil palm fruit seized in Kalabakan

TAWAU: Two local men, aged 31 and 44, were arrested on suspicion of stealing oil palm fruit from an estate in Kalabakan after members of the public handed them over to the police on Oct 24.
OCPD ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the suspects were handed over to a team from the Kalabakan Police Station at about 5.45pm for further action.
He said the arrests followed a police report lodged on the same day regarding the alleged theft.
Police also seized 52 bunches of oil palm fruit, a four-wheel-drive vehicle and a car key as part of the investigation.
Rosdi said the case was being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which concerns theft. However, the exact provision being applied remains subject to confirmation by the investigating officer, as it was not specified in the arrest report received.
He stressed that the theft of agricultural produce was a serious offence that should not be taken lightly.
Rosdi urged the public to respect the property rights of others and refrain from engaging in criminal activities.
He also encouraged anyone with information about criminal incidents to contact the nearest police station to assist investigations and help curb crime in the Tawau district. – James Leong
