SEMPORNA: Magistrate’s Court 2 Semporna sentenced 14 individuals in separate cases involving drug-related and other criminal offences on March 16.
In five drug cases, all accused were found guilty of possessing methamphetamine under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Prison sentences ranging from 9 to 17 months were imposed, depending on the quantity of drugs involved. Several offenders were also ordered to be handed over to the Immigration Department upon completion of their sentences.
In separate proceedings, nine other individuals were convicted of various offences, including possession of stolen property, mischief, theft, trespass, illegal gambling, and offences under the Minor Offences Ordinance of Sabah and the Animal Welfare Enactment. Sentences included imprisonment of up to two years and fines of up to RM5,000.
All sentences were handed down by Magistrate Dayang Aidaku Amira Aminuddin after the accused either pleaded guilty or were found guilty. Prosecution was led by Inspector Muhammad Nur Faez Hazreeq Abdullah. None of the accused were represented by legal counsel.
Semporna OCPD Superintendent Tan Hiap Wah, stressed that police will not compromise with any form of criminal activity, particularly drug-related offences. The public is urged to provide information to assist police in combating crime and maintaining public safety. – James Leong
