SANDAKAN: Nine owners of noisy motorcycles were slapped with compound by the Department of Environment (JAS) here during a joint operation with the district police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division during the weekend.
“JAS enforcement personnel carried out checks on 17 motorcycles and issued 14 notices under Section 48 of the Environmental Quality Act 1974 (Motor Vehicle Noise),” OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
Nine motorcyclists were compounded for failing to adhere to Regulation 4(2) of the Environmental Quality Regulations (Motor Vehicle Noise) 1987, he added.
Meanwhile, the district police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) issued 20 summonses for various traffic offences during the operation, Ahsmon said.
According to Ahsmon, 12 personnel from BSPT and 13 personnel from JAS were involved in the “Op Samseng Jalanan Motorsikal” at various spots of the district between 4.00 pm March 22 and 2.30 am March 23. – James Leong
