KINABATANGAN: Rescue crews recovered the body of a 30-year-old man who was reportedly attacked by a crocodile while fishing near the river at a plantation here on Monday.
The Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue station received a distress call at 6.08 am. The victim was believed to have been snatched by a crocodile while fishing near the river at the plantation.
A five-member team, led by PBK II Mohd Nor Azmeer, arrived at the remote location at 7.22 am after traveling 50 kilometres from their station.
Members of rescue agencies conducted surface searches along the riverbanks where the attack occurred.
The body of Jufri Untung was recovered at 1.40 pm about 30 metres from where he was reported missing.
The remains were later handed over to the police for further action.
Other agencies involved in the operation included the police, Wildlife Department, villagers and plantation workers.
Authorities urged the public to take extreme caution when near rivers in this area that are known crocodile habitats. – James Leong
