LAHAD DATU: Lahad Datu’s strategic location gives it the potential to serve as a rocket launch site for Southeast Asia, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
“If this materialises in the next two or three years, Lahad Datu will attract many visitors, including space scientists.
“This will certainly become an economic catalyst for Lahad Datu,” he said at the Hari Raya 2026 open house hosted by Datuk Abdul Hakim Gulam Hassan at Dewan Sri Perdana here.
The potential of Lahad Datu is based on final studies conducted by the State Government and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Malaysia, he said.
“Many states have lobbied to host the rocket launch site, but the indicators and studies show that Lahad Datu is the most suitable location for this project,” he said.
He said the State Government will not only continue to bring development to Lahad Datu, but will also prioritise the well-being of the people in the district.
“I had intended several times to visit Lahad Datu, especially before the last election.
“However, due to unavoidable circumstances, I was unable to campaign here. That is all right, we still have the parliamentary elections next year.
“What is important is that our people here remain united and choose the government party for our common good.
“The current State Government has done its best for the people and the state of Sabah.
“Do not listen to slander from irresponsible parties. What the government has done must be conveyed to the people.
“I also urge the public not to easily believe accusations, allegations and slander that will ultimately harm us,” he said. – Wu Vuide
